The Significance of January 2nd and what your great grandfather would tell you

Today is a day for celebration and a bit of sadness.  Your great granddad Elpidio’s birthday is today.  While you did have opportunities to meet him, unfortunately he passed away at such a young age that I’m not sure to what extent, if any, you remember him.  To a large extent, you can attribute the faith of our family to him.  Interestingly enough, it was your great grandmother, Altagracia, that came to Christ first.  Granddad was reluctant and skeptical but after a few years of grandma’s dedication he gave in and started attending with her.  From there he was transformed and by the time I came around he was a devoted Christian, in fact, a deacon at his church!  Even to this day, he remains the best example of a Godly man that I’ve ever seen and while I didn’t realize it at the time, watching him live out his faith is one of the biggest factors in me coming back to the faith 12  years ago.

I miss granddad and one of the things I hate the most is that you didn’t get a chance to really know him.  What I can tell you, with complete confidence, is that he would be (and is) so proud of you. He valued intellect, which you clearly have, but he valued matters of faith and matters of the heart even more.  He would be so proud that you have a passion for the things of God, that you love what He loves and that you Hate what he Hates.  You are too young to realize how unique and special you are.  You are beautiful (outside and inside), intelligent, compassionate, and wise beyond your years.  It’s such a unique combination, especially at your age, that it confirms that your purpose on earth is significant!  That means we’ll have to work hard to help you continue to hone your gifts so that they are ready to be used when He calls on you to use them.  Think of David and how he took down Goliath – it’s not like he randomly picked up a slingshot and took him down.  No, he perfected his craft while shepherding the flock.  What a boring life that I’m sure he sometimes questioned God about.  Unbeknownst to him, God would use that ‘boring life’ to prepare him for his calling.  To deliver his people from bondage!  You have a similar calling on your life, a giant killer. My sense is the giant you will slay is something societal which will usher in a new era of awareness and help turn many back to Him.  Oh what a glorious day that will be!

It’s that kind of destiny that you have on your life and that is the kind of accomplishment in your bloodline!  A big part of the bloodline is the result of your grandfather, Elpidio.
