Moral Relativisim (and other associated ideas)

Well…POTUS made news today in a very unexpected way. He stated that marijuana is no more dangerous than alcohol.  Some people applauded him saying it while others were furious.  I won’t weigh in with my opinion but I’ll use this as an opportunity to teach you about the concept of moral relativism.  Here’s a definition from Wikipedia:

Moral relativism may be any of several philosophical positions concerned with the differences in moral judgments across different people and cultures. Descriptive moral relativism holds only that some people do in fact disagree about what is moral; meta-ethical moral relativism holds that in such disagreements, nobody is objectively right or wrong; and normative moral relativism holds that because nobody is right or wrong, we ought to tolerate the behavior of others even when we disagree about the morality of it.

With each passing year it seems moral relativism gets further ingrained in our culture.  It’s a great topic to debate in philosophy class but in truth it’s a great way to promote the idea that no one is right or wrong.  And if no one is right or wrong then who is God to tell me that something I enjoy is sin?  It’s a *very* slippery slope and we, as a culture, have been sliding down it for decades.  That is how the abortion, gay marriage, etc. all came to be more widely considered as acceptable.  You know where I stand on these issues and you’ll have to make decisions about topics like this for yourself.  My word of wisdom to you is simply to consider God’s standard in all of this, not man’s standard which continues to decline based on what sounds good or feels good.
