Jesus wept

Today we learned that Drummage's mother passed away earlier in the day.  It was about a year ago that he lost his father.  On the 19th, Drum will have his 38th birthday and it is almost unfathomable to think he has lost both his parents at such a young age.  What do you say to a friend who is grieving the loss of his mother and perhaps was still grieving the loss of his father a year ago?  More often than not, it's more about what you do than it is about what you say. Outside of scripture there just aren't words that make a difference in a situation like this one.  Thankfully, we have scripture to lean on and learn from in moments like these.  I'm reminded of John 11:35, famously known as the shortest verse in the Bible:  "Jesus wept".  It's a cute trivia fact that it's the shortest verse in the Bible but I'm afraid we miss the point. In this story, Jesus learned of the loss of Lazarus and went to be with Mary and Martha and the key to verse 35 is found in verse 33:  "When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled."  What a wonderful reminder that He knows exactly what we're going through in life. He experienced it for himself.

Tori, God knows everything that has happened in your life and everything that will happen.  There is no burden to big or small for Him.  There is no problem that He is not interested in being the solution for.  Bring everything to Him!  He wants to take the burden from us as seen in Matthew 11:30 - "For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  Rest in Him and trust in Him.  Both of the scriptures I mention in this post are fairly well known by Christians but so many struggle because they have not transferred these scriptures from their heads to their hearts.  My prayer for you is that God would inscribe His word in your head and on your heart!
